The Chinese Consulate in SF
May 20th
Consulate fun fact: the seat cover dispenser in the women’s bathroom is upside-down. Hmm, I wonder why…
I spent a lot of time there last week. But, I also had the chance to use the “special window” at the Laguna St. entrance. I waited in a little room while the consul brought my documents to me. As I stood up to leave, he stood up to acknowledge me, though he was already tending to the others in the room. And who said chivalry was dead? I’m such a girly girl inside. Shh…I hope no one finds out about this.
Well, I think my high schoolers know what I think about this stuff. I hope my guys turn into real gentlemen–some of them are well on their way already.
Sisters, Brothers, and Asexuals
May 18th

In my high school Sunday school class, we would split into teams of guys and girls. Sometimes, the kids needed 3 groups and they’d split into guys, girls, and leaders. Apparently, leaders are neither guys nor girls.
Potassium Chlorate and Gummy Bear

I never did like chemistry class, but this looks pretty cool. I hope Sheldon doesn’t read this. He’s one of my high schoolers who likes playing with smoke bombs.
High School Potluck?
Dec 19th
We had a mini-mid-Christmas-break-par-tay at my house tonight with my high schoolers. The main course was provided, but we asked them to bring drinks and snacks. Here’s what some of them bought:
- 2 packs of microwave popcorn
- chips
- soda
- jello (2 boxes that came in those plastic take-out containers from Koi Palace)
- brownies
- Baileys truffles (non-alcoholic)
- one pomegranate
- cheez-it snack packs
- graham crackers
- some Italian cake thing
Talk about random, eh? But man, I love my kids. They make me smile. And no thanks to them, now I’m addicted to Guitar Hero.
By the way, words cannot express how much I appreciate my co-leaders. I am so blessed to be with them.
It’s Prom Season Again
Mar 28th
Bailey’s prom date, taken last Saturday. I guess this is what I get to go through every year when I work with high schoolers.
