My own Operation Rice Bowl

The World Bank defines poverty as living on less than $2 a day and extreme poverty as living on less than $1 a day.

During Lent, I’ve decided that once twice a week, I’ll be eating only a single bowl of rice (or beans) for dinner.  For those who know about me and food, I gotta start small.  I’m putting the money that I would have spent on dinner in a jar and I plan to donate it to a Christian organization that tackles the causes of poverty.  It probably won’t amount to much, but according to World Vision, I can:

  • provide clothing to children in 31 countries with $15
  • feed hungry children in Africa with $20
  • felp provide lifesaving immunizations with $25

I want to pray, learn more about the global community and the challenges of poverty overseas, and contribute to those in need.  But I think I’m too chicken to do something like doing a total fast in solidarity with those around the world who suffer from hunger.

I am so imperfect, but I am reminded of how perfect He is.

"I Am"

I am
impatient, impulsive, irrational at times
and I am
ungrateful, and this heart’s so full of pride
I can be rude
and I don’t tell the truth
all of the time
All this is true
and then there’s you
Everything that I am not

You are
"I am"
and I am not worthy of the blood of the lamb
that you spilled for me
and I could never offer anything
but I’ve been covered up by you
the "I am"

I am
so fleeting, so faithless, so full of my desires
And I am
unworthy
of this love that lifts me high
And the best that I do
is as rags unto you
still you give me your love
You are all that is true, the great I am
and everything that I am not

You are
"I am"
and I am not worthy of the blood of the lamb
that you spilled for me
and I could never offer anything
but I’ve been covered up by you
the "I am"

I am covered in love by the "I am"
Something I just can’t understand
You make me new
again and again
again and again….

You are "I am"
and I am not worthy of the blood of the lamb
that you spilled for me
And I could never offer anything
but I have been covered up by you
the "I am"
