More geeky than girly.

2012

  • Taken this past Wednesday at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. Admission is free before 10am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

  • The Chicago Cultural Center’s Louis Comfort Tiffany art glass dome at 24mm, not wide enough. Restored in 2008, this is the largest Tiffany glass dome in the world. May, 2011.

  • Does anyone send e-cards anymore? I still love hoops&yoyo. Here’s one in honor of Mother’s Day this weekend: What we say vs. what mom hears. Click on the buttons on the left of the card to hear what we say. Then click on the buttons to the right of the card to hear what mom…

  • So here’s my wallpaper for the week: Taken, not by NASA, but by Russia’s weather satellite, the Electro-L. Apparently, this is not a composite made from many different photographs—this is a portrait of Earth taken in one single shot. Download full-size image. Warning, it’s huge! • Lorena Gaillot went to NYC from France and didn’t know what a hipster was. So she set out on a hipster quest.

  • Caught

Caught at Niece #2’s birthday party last week. I feel bad. Look at the fear in his eyes… Still procrastinating on my final project.

  • You know how my tagline on this website is “more geeky than girly?” Yes, I’m a Star Wars geek. I’ve loved it since I was little. So in honor of Star Wars Day, I changed my Facebook cover photo. You can get your very own Timeline Cover image at the Official Star Wars Facebook Page.

  • Brevity

I’ve been using a tool called Gmail Meter that just came out last week. It analyzes your Gmail statistics and trends. As if Google didn’t know. It’s just sharing the information with you. Gmail Meter is an Apps Script which runs on the first day of every month and sends you an email containing different…

  • I’ve been meaning to document this here so I can find it easily in the future. Where do you go to buy photography equipment when you’re in China? Look no further than the Beijing photography city. If I remember correctly, it’s about 2 stories filled with a hundred different stores/booths. I didn’t buy any big-ticket…

  • Holi

Holi beauty, Batman! Taken at the Hindi festival of Holi, the film was shot on a Phantom Flex- a camera that can capture up to 2570 frames a second creating super slow motion. This slow motion gives it an almost-photographic feel and really helps me pay attention to the composition and the fantastic lighting.

  • CHP Flair

Not sure why I was at F2.8 when I can’t focus correctly or quickly on the street. Ugh. Not the best picture, but I like his bow tie (and the bike). Officer Mark Pineda, California Highway Patrol on Market.

  • This is the new Coca-Cola poster seen around Shanghai designed by the guy who designed the Steve Jobs tribute. (Via)

  • Being Elmo

I’ve been meaning to post about this since my friend forced me to watch it on Netflix a few weeks ago. Watch the trailer below, then go watch the full documentary.

  • I’ve been reading a book called Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks, a professor of neurology and psychiatry at Columbia University and saw that Gizmodo had just posted a video about the same stuff that I’ve been reading about. Here’s the video:

  • San Francisco’s Pier 39, with the Bay Bridge in the background. August, 2011. I was reminded of this song (CD here): I wouldn’t say I’m a super emotional personal person. I’m not good with using words to describe how I feel or what I’m thinking–pictures and music often do a better job.

  • No word on release date. Maybe a little too similar to real life experiences? Via Chinabean.

  • First time we were finally formally introduced, he put on a show for me. In honor of “The Hunger Games Friday,” I should call this “Larry on fire.” Nice guy–and quite humble too. You’ll usually find him at 4th and Market, in front of Old Navy.

  • Study Music

Been reading a lot. And because I can’t read to music that has lyrics, here’s what I’ve been listening to: Transformers – The Score The Power Of One: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Gladiator Any other suggestions?

  • Here’s a second shot from Mare Island. See the first one here. Photo tip that I was able to share that night: Your DSLR may have in-camera noise reduction automatically turned on by default. If that’s the case, for each second of exposure, your camera will take another second to apply noise reduction and you…
