  • March, 2013 San Francisco, CA Just shooting random stuff in my house.

  • Anton (Hasselt, BE) is a photographer and fond of long term projects. At least, he thinks he is. His very first project: a look inside a Japanese Yakuza crime family changed his life. Or maybe it did not change it. Or maybe a just little. Or maybe a lot. In his talk he will focus…

  • Treasure Island, 2013.

  • The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens is on sale for $94 with free shipping. This is one of the first lenses I tell people to get when they get into the DSLR game. It’s cheap and fast. Good for portraits and is generally a bit more artsy-fartsy than the kit lenses.

  • Time’s Best Photojournalism of 2012

  • Edward Weston

Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.

  • Pier 39

Just going through some old stuffs. Pier 39, San Francisco. August, 2011.

  • In 1906, most of San Francisco was leveled by an earthquake and destroyed by fires that followed. Photographers captured scenes of the devastation. Photographer Shawn Clover created composite photographs that blend historical scenes from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and his own present-day captures of the same locations. Part 1 and Part 2.

  • Bethy

One of my favorite things to do introduce kids to photography. Yes, I like to take pictures OF them, but taking pictures WITH them is a whole new ballgame. I give them a camera and give them basic tips like “get real close” aka filling the frame. You really need to figure out how much…

  • Oops, I’m a little slow, but if you haven’t heard yet, Canon just announced some new products.

  • Another familiar photo to remember another historical event that took place this month a few years back, but I never knew it was so wide. That’s a LOT of tanks! Check out the video footage too! It looked like he was just passing through on his way back from a grocery store or something.

  • Forty years ago this month, one of the most memorable images during the Vietnam War was taken. Kim Phuc, the 9 year old girl in the photo, was running from her village that was hit by napalm. Everyone has seen that picture, but I didn’t know video footage also exists. Warning: the footage is graphic.

  • I’ve been meaning to document this here so I can find it easily in the future. Where do you go to buy photography equipment when you’re in China? Look no further than the Beijing photography city. If I remember correctly, it’s about 2 stories filled with a hundred different stores/booths. I didn’t buy any big-ticket…

  • Holi

Holi beauty, Batman! Taken at the Hindi festival of Holi, the film was shot on a Phantom Flex- a camera that can capture up to 2570 frames a second creating super slow motion. This slow motion gives it an almost-photographic feel and really helps me pay attention to the composition and the fantastic lighting.

  • San Francisco’s Pier 39, with the Bay Bridge in the background. August, 2011. I was reminded of this song (CD here): I wouldn’t say I’m a super emotional personal person. I’m not good with using words to describe how I feel or what I’m thinking–pictures and music often do a better job.

  • I think I was posing for a group picture, so this was “shot from the hip”. I remember they were a friendly bunch. At Panjiayuan (潘家园), Beijing, China. 2010.
